BEARBACKERS is an ALL Sports Booster Club for grades 7th-12th.  This club helps with funding for athletic scholarships, improvements to facilities, and end-of-season team banquets for your athlete. The club relies on parent volunteers to help with fundraisers held throughout the year.
What benefits do Athletes receive?
Every year Bearbackers awards numerous $1,000 scholarships to MHS Senior athletes who submit the scholarship application and meet all requirements.  For the 2015-2016 school year, 48 scholarships were awarded during the Annual Senior Scholars Award Night to our very deserving Senior Athletes.
Bearbackers also uses monies from fundraising efforts to make improvements to Sports facilities and equipment.  The following are examples of those efforts in past years: $3600 to install a Sand Pit to be used by all the athletes as a conditioning tool.  We also purchased a new $10,000 sound system for the Main Gym at MHS and spent $4000 to replace, and add to, the EZ-UP pop-up tents that are used by all of the sports teams, as well as, at our annual fundraising events.
In 2010 Bearbackers donated $25,000 to supplement the school budget for the purpose of improving practice facilities/fields at both the High School and Junior High School, and we donated $28,000 to renovate the high school weight room by replacing the floor & ceiling tiles, refurbishing the weight machines & repainting.  The majority of the boys and girls sports at MHS utilize this area.
Other Bearbacker contributions include: purchasing new uniforms for the Junior High and High School athletes, signs around the facilities, including the CHAMPION golf sign in the front of MHS and painted murals in the Junior High gym.
How does Bearbackers raise the money?
Our biggest fundraiser is our annual Bearbackers Golf Tournament, which is held in the Fall at a local Golf Club that opens it course to our club for a day of Golf fun.  In the past, it has been held at Bentwater Country Club, April Sound, La Toretta, Walden and Woodforest.  Our newest community involved fundraising event is the annual fun run, “Running of the Bears”, held in the spring.
